Building Information Modeling (BIM)
SDI has bridged the gap between design, fabrication, and construction by taking on an important design-assist role. We have worked closely with project architects, designers, general contractors, and owners to deliver complex healthcare/OSHPD projects on time and within budget. SDI has always been proactive in its approach and regularly lead coordination efforts due to our early involvement design-assist capabilities and role. Our lead role is successful because we use a team approach to find mutually beneficial solutions that benefit the project as a whole as well as efficient delivery of our scope.
Our Construction Design group has provided project planning, documentation, support & detailing in a wide variety of design-assist roles covering all aspects of the project. Providing construction design support has always been an integral part of our core philosophy and industry adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) / 3D modeling has allowed us to excel in that arena. Our estimating, preconstruction and construction teams look at BIM Models and are able to immediately understand how they can be integrated for Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) tasks and services to ultimately create a lean construction process.
Our in-house staff includes an architect, experienced field personnel, 3D modelers, and draftsmen. We also have longstanding relationships with a number of engineering consultants that we partner with in completing our design assist responsibilities for engineered metal stud framing documents. Our software systems in which we operate include Revit Architecture, StructSoft (MWF) AutoCAD Architecture, automated framing software and Navisworks Manage for modeling and coordination.
BIM Program
SDI works alongside the project design and construction team to develop a workflow and process that enables owners, general contractors and designers to focus on their areas of expertise while we utilize our expertise to assist the project team, streamline project development and eliminate costly redundancies of effort.
Key functions of our design-assist efforts include:
• Identify and catalog project details and assemblies
• Inform project team of framing and rating coordination criteria
• Develop, coordinate and provide details with project design team
• Identify opportunities for value engineering and provide information for analysis
• Identify and provide solutions for constructability issues
• Identify and provide solutions for code compliance issues
• Engage IOR and FLSO to review proposed details and conditions
• Ensure project designs contribute to efficient delivery of quality, performance, budget and schedule requirements of the project
